Aliens & Vampires

Heath went to Utah to his friend Mitch's wedding and then he is driving to Grand Junction to see his friend Lance. He is going to be gone for a week and a half. I had such high expectations that I would have time to clean the house and watch girlie movies, and then I started reading books by Stephenie Meyer. I first started reading The Host. It is about aliens invading earth. Sounds stupid huh? I don't ever read Sci Fi books, but this is an alien love story, and I couldn't put it down. Then I just started reading the 4th book in the Twilight Series "Breaking Dawn." So anyone who has read these books has already guessed that I have a dirty house and untouched movies because I can't stop reading. Do you think my boss would understand if I called in sick with OCD (obsessive Cullen Disease)?

Tourist Guide

This last week Heath has been a wonderful Tourist guide to some friends from Boston. Matt (he went to Law school with Heath) and his wife Laura are staying with us for a week. They are on their way to go live in China for a year. They are going to teach college kids, and he is going to help start up a pre law class. They have kept pretty busy and had tons of fun. They did all the normal touristy things like the Space Needle, Pikes Place Market, and Snoqualmie Falls. It happens to be Seafair this weekend, so they got to see the Blue Angels perform. They are a U.S Naval Flight Demonstration Squadron that fly very close to one another and do some amazing tricks. Most of the time I have been working, while they played, but I did get to join them on Friday night. We went to eat at a little mexican restaurant on the water and then rented some 2-man kayaks and went out on Lake Union. It was the first time I had ever been in a kayak. We got to see Gas Works park, and the adorable house boats. We even went right by the house that was in the movie Sleepless in Seattle. On Saturday I had to work, but they got to drive down to the Olympic National Park. They camped overnight, hiked, and saw the beautiful beaches of La Push. For those Eclipse fans this is the place in the book, but Heath said the actual town was a dump, but the beaches were great. On Monday they went hiking near Mt. Rainier.

Cutest kids on the block

My nieces and nephews are the cutest kids EVER (and no I am not biased). For Fathers' Day they called us up and invited us over for dinner and for something special for their dad. When we got there Taylor our hostess/ waitress took us around back and seated us at a table in Dad's Diner. They had decorated the deck and made us all dinner, but wait there was a twist. We had to order our dinner. We had 3 courses and 10 things on the menu. Doesn't sound so hard, right? Here was the menu: The Darth Vader Special, World of Warcraft(a computer game for all of you nongamers), The Yankee Surprise, The Beatles, Sleepin In, The Doplhins(Miami), Roller Coasters, Games, Electrician, and Braveheart. If you haven't guessed these are all things that their dad likes. So we all order our first 3 things. I ended up with a hamburger bun, napkin, and a salad. The next 3 things I got were some silverware, a hamburger pattie, and a root beer float(YUM). Unlike some people at the table, I had kept track of what I had ordered the first 2 times and for my third course I got the rest of my meal which was the condiments, water, and curly fries. They were so creative(with a little help from their mom), and even had reviews printed on the menu from such esteemed people such as Hamburger Helper, and Chef Boy AR Dee.

Stealing our neighbor's BBQ

Ok- so we didn't really steal our neighbor's BBQ grill, but we got a sweet deal. Heath was out on our then empty porch studying when our next door neighbor was packing up their car to move and asked if we wanted the stuff on his porch because they didn't have room to take it with them to San Diego. The guy said we could have it for $50, but Heath didn't feel right about that, so he gave him $100. Awesome! We got a BBQ, a table and chair set, and 2 huge potted plants. We grilled our first steaks tonight for dinner, and I think we are really going to enjoy our new patio setup.

Redsox

One thing I like about Safeco field and the Mariners is that we finally don't have to pay extreme amounts for tickets to see the Red Sox play. The day that the Mariners tickets went on sale, Heath and I got on our computer and laptop and quickly bought tickets for 3 games. We were able to get some really good seats for face value(this is impossible in Boston). Our first game was on Memorial Day. After our trip to Orcas Island we had to hurry straight to the park. We sat in a rowdy section and the Red Sox won. The next night were our best seats. They were almost right behind the home plate and 40 rows up. Unfortunately, the Red Sox lost, but we still had fun.

Orcas Island

Over Memorial weekend we went to the San Juan Islands. They are a group of islands off the coast of Washington. They are known for their beauty, wildlife, and groups of orcas who call the water around them home. Heath first went to the islands last year when him and his brother went on an overnight kayaking trip to a couple of the islands. This time we went with his brother Chris, our sister-in-law Tara, and our nieces and nephew Taylor, Riley, and Reese. We rented a 3 bedroom cabin at Doe Bay Resort on Orcas Island. We knew that the ferries would have a long line because it was a holiday weekend, but we had no idea. We waited in line for 3 hours for the ferry to the island. Luckily there was a small beach where we had a picnic and explored. We got there Sat evening around 5:30 pm. Our cabin "The Cypress" was really close to some rocks that led down to the ocean. They had some chairs on the rocks so that you could read, or just sit and look at the view. On Sunday we went on some hikes in the Moran State Park that is nearby. We wanted to hike up to the tallest point called "Mount Constitution." We couldn't find the trail, so we ended up driving up to the top. But we did have to hike up a little to the tower, so we can technically say that we did hike up to Mount Constitution. After our hikes we saw a cute little roped off area for swimming. The sun was out and it looked like fun, so we hurried to our cabin and changed. Of course, by the time we got back the sun had set, and the water was really cold. Everyone but me was too chicken to get in. I just slowly waded in and waited for my body to go numb. After a hot shower we had dinner and than started a campfire and played games. We thought after our long wait for the ferry to the island, that we would get an early start the next morning, so did everyone else on the island. We arrived at the ferry terminal at 9:45am and they told us we would be on the 4:15 pm ferry. I thought we were going to go crazy waiting, but then my husband had a great idea. Right above where the car was parked there were some trees that he hung our hammock from. It was so relaxing and we laid there for hours. We could see the ocean and the other islands, and we forgot for a little while that we were stuck in a very very long line for a ferry. It was a great weekend, and of course I have no pictures because our camera was dead. My sister-in-law has some pics that I will post as soon as I get them.

Tulip Festival

In the end of May we drove up to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. It is about an hour and a half north of Seattle. There are fields and fields of different colored tulips red, pink, purple, yellow, and orange. The fields are so big that it seemed they went on forever. We forgot the camera, so these are the only pictures we quickly snapped with our phones. I still can't decide what was my favorite color.

Joining the "IN" crowd

A few months back our friends from Boston, The Elton's decided that we needed a blog. They created it and even put on our first 2 postings. Our blog has sat idle since then, but we have now decided(rather Chrissy has decided) to spend hours at the computer in the blogging world. So here goes...
